Once you’ve gotten rid of everything that isn’t necessary, it’s time to ensure everything else is in good shape. Things like lights and appliances should be working properly, so check all of them before putting your house on the market. Check all the water taps, AC, heating system, gutters, etc. Check for blocked sewer systems because they might cause a health threat. 

If your home has various colors on the walls, consider painting them to a more neutral color. Choose a color that can impress almost everyone. Neutral or earthy tones can be a good choice. Avoid choosing colors that attract too much attention. This helps the home appear more attractive, and new paint is always a plus in buyers eyes.  Although the new homeowner may change the color after you sell the house, they can choose to use the home with the colors they found.

Ensure you do away with bad smells from pet beds, carpets, rubbish bins, etc.. Check the toilet to ensure it is not a source of bad smell in the home. You might want to add some good smells, but don’t go overboard. You can even ask your neighbor to give an opinion about the smell in the home. When dealing with bad odors, consider using some of the below methods to help:

• Use KILZ Paint Primer on walls
• Place coffee grounds throughout the house
• Add baking soda to the carpet or any stained areas
• Consider getting your carpets and upholstery professionally cleaned to help eliminate some odors. 

Take a look at your yard objectively.  Prune shrubs and trees.  Get your grass fertilized and mowed  so it looks as green as possible.  Get your planting beds mulched with dark pine bark mulch.  Remove debris in any areas of the yard.  Focus on the street view of your home.  Powerwash walkways and steps,  repair masonry, make sure door handles and bells are functional, put a fresh coat of paint on the front door and place planters on either side of the door to greet visitors.  You only have one chance to make a good first impression!
